A leading international ship management company is seeking an Assistant QHSE Manager to join its Offshore team in Antwerp.
Working closely with the QHSE Manager, you’ll support the ongoing development and maintenance of the company’s vessel management systems, helping ensure the highest standards of quality, health, safety and environmental performance across a fleet of offshore support vessels.
Responsibilities
As Assistant QHSE Manager, you’ll play an important role in supporting both the office and vessel teams, providing guidance on QHSE matters while helping maintain compliance with international maritime regulations and company standards.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Supporting the development and maintenance of the company’s QHSE management systems and documentation.
- Conducting internal audits, vessel inspections, risk assessments and incident investigations.
- Coordinating Flag State, Class and external audits while monitoring corrective actions through to completion.
- Monitoring fleet performance, analysing QHSE statistics and producing KPI reports for management and clients.
- Maintaining ISM, ISPS and MLC documentation and supporting statutory compliance across the fleet.
- Assisting with emergency preparedness, ship-to-shore drills and training sessions for both office and vessel personnel.
- Supporting vessel takeovers and liaising with technical teams on safety documentation, security plans and environmental compliance.
- Monitoring industry developments, Flag State requirements and offshore regulations to ensure best practice is maintained.
- Providing day-to-day QHSE support to Masters, Chief Engineers, Safety Officers and internal stakeholders.
- Undertaking occasional business travel to vessels and operational locations as required.
Requirements
You hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Nautical Sciences, Marine Engineering or a related maritime discipline and have a strong understanding of QHSE principles, ISM, ISPS, MLC and ISO management systems.
You may already have experience in a shore-based QHSE, Safety, Compliance or Marine Assurance role, or be looking to make your first move ashore from sailing. This opportunity would particularly suit a Junior Safety Officer, onboard Safety Officer, Chief Officer, Master or Marine Engineer with an interest in safety, compliance and management systems.
You are organised, analytical and confident communicating with both onboard and shore-based teams, with the ability to conduct audits, investigate incidents and promote a positive safety culture.
Applicants must already have the unrestricted right to work within the EU and either be based in Belgium or able to commute or relocate there without requiring visa sponsorship.
We’re interested in candidates who have:
- A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Nautical Science, Marine Engineering or a related maritime discipline.
- Previous sailing experience within the offshore oil & gas sector (highly advantageous).
- A strong understanding of offshore marine operations, maritime safety and environmental compliance.
- Knowledge of ISM, ISPS, MLC, incident investigation, risk assessment and audit processes.
- Familiarity with ISO 9001, quality management systems and continuous improvement principles.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Excellent communication skills and the confidence to engage with both onboard and shore-based personnel.
- Good Microsoft Office skills, including Excel, Word and Outlook.
- A proactive mindset with a genuine passion for safety and operational excellence.
