The Shipboard Nurse provides comprehensive nursing care to guests and crew onboard, supporting ship-wide health operations, outbreak prevention, and emergency response. This includes clinical, administrative, and public health duties while maintaining the highest standards of confidentiality, professionalism, and compliance with international maritime medical policies.
Responsibilities
Patient Care & Emergency Support

Triage and assess all patients (guests and crew), escalating emergent conditions to the Doctor or Senior Doctor immediately.

Assist in clinical procedures, minor surgical interventions, and emergency resuscitations.

Administer prescribed treatments, medications, and monitor patient recovery.
-
Perform Code Alpha/Star Code response and participate in emergency evacuations (air or land).
Medical Center Operations
-
Maintain and operate medical spaces and equipment, ensuring cleanliness, orderliness, and operational readiness.

Sterilize surgical instruments per company policy.
-
Maintain narcotics inventory, proper disposal of sharps, and hazardous waste handling.

Respond professionally to all phone calls to the medical center, even outside working hours.
Public Health & Compliance
-
Conduct routine water testing and report findings per CDC/USPH or port health requirements.

Monitor for Acute Gastroenteritis and maintain logs and documentation for health authorities.

Support public health inspections and infection control measures.
Administrative & Reporting Duties
-
Assist with preparation of accident reports, medical records, and referral documentation.

Coordinate shore-side medical appointments and notify department heads as needed.

Support crew wellness programs by maintaining medical records and scheduling physicals.

Ensure up-to-date, accurate medical documentation for all guests and crew.
Training & Safety
-
Participate in lifeboat, fire, and medical drills; lead stretcher teams and provide first aid instruction.

Assist with crew training in first aid and hygiene practices.
-
Monitor medical equipment and medication expiry dates; ensure proper restocking and disposal.

Ensure compliance with SQM (Safety and Quality Management System) and all company policies.
Requirements
Required Documents (upon boarding)

Nursing School Diploma or equivalent
-
Current and valid RN license from country or state of origin

ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)

BLS (Basic Life Support)
All certifications must remain valid for the duration of the contract.
Qualifications
-
Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing
-
Minimum 3 years of recent clinical experience in ER, ICU, CCU, or Trauma
-
Intermediate to advanced English language proficiency (verbal and written)

Documented work history or chronology since graduation
Education

Degree or diploma from an accredited nursing school or university

Ongoing compliance with credential renewals and CE requirements

Capable of working in varying temperatures (indoors and outdoors)

Must pass the company-required safety course

Proficient in use of PPE (personal protective equipment) and decontamination protocols
