The First Assistant Engineer (Second Engineer) is responsible for the day-to-day management of the engine department and the maintenance of all machinery and engineering systems onboard the LPG tanker. Acting as the deputy to the Chief Engineer, the First Assistant Engineer ensures the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of propulsion, auxiliary, cargo-related, and safety systems while maintaining full compliance with company procedures and international maritime regulations.
Responsibilities
- Assist the Chief Engineer in the overall management of the engineering department.
- Assume responsibility for the engineering department in the Chief Engineer’s absence.
- Supervise engine room watchkeeping and daily engineering activities.
- Ensure machinery is operated safely and efficiently at all times.
- Plan, coordinate, and supervise routine and preventive maintenance activities.
- Maintain and repair:
- Main propulsion engines and associated equipment.
- Auxiliary engines and generators.
- Boilers and incinerators.
- Pumps, compressors, heat exchangers, and piping systems.
- Hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
- Monitor machinery performance and investigate equipment defects or failures
Requirements
- Second Engineer Certificate of Competency (STCW III/2).
- Valid STCW certification and seafarer’s medical certificate.
- Advanced Gas Tanker Endorsement.
- Previous experience as Second Engineer or Senior Engineer on LPG, LNG, or gas tanker vessels.
